Oil tanker workers’ strike withdrawn

The indefinite strike called by the oil tanker workers has been suspended on Monday evening following the assurances of the authorities to meet the demands of the workers.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Lighterage Sramik Union Nabi Alam said the workers joined their work from 5:00pm yesterday.
When contacted, President of Literage Workers Association Shahjahan Master confirmed the withdrawal of strike of oil tanker workers.
Earlier, the workers of oil tankers in Chittagong enforced indefinite strike from 12 nidnight of Sunday protesting the prohibition of operation of 150 oil tankers across the country.
Following the government directives for stoppage of 150 oil tankers, about 3000 workers of these shutdown tankers became jobless and they are passing days miserably .
General Secretary of Bangladesh Lighterage Sramik Union Nabi Alam told The New Nation that the oil tanker workers enforced strike to suspend the government order on 150 oil lighter vessels.
