Jatiya Oikyafront on Saturday wrote three separate letters to the Election Commission demanding exemplary punishment to those who attacked the motorcade of its leader Dr Kamal Hossain.
The Oikyafront leaders asked for withdrawal of the Sirajganj Superintendent of Police (SP) and officer-in-charge of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station also following yesterday’s attack on Romana Mahmud, BNP candidate for Sirajganj-2 Constituency.
They also urged the EC to take steps against the attacks on BNP leaders and their supporters all over the country ahead of the general election scheduled to be held on December 30.
BNP Joint Secretary General Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal handed over all the
three letters to EC Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed at EC Headquarters on Saturday.
Jatiya Oikyafront leader Dr Kamal Hossain’s motorcade came under attack of several goons near the Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial in the capital’s Mirpur on Friday.
At least 25 people were injured in the attack around 9:45am when the eminent jurist was returning home after paying tribute to the martyred intellectuals, alleged leaders of the opposition alliance. Seven to eight cars were also vandalized. Dr Kamal, however, was unhurt.
