The Jatiya Oikyafront on Friday announced that it would hold a public meeting at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on November 6 for realisation of its seven-point demands, including dissolution of Parliament and formation of neutral government before the coming national election.
The rally was scheduled for Friday. But it was rescheduled upon request from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, alliance leaders said.
On behalf of the front, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a briefing in a BNP central office disclosed their next programme.
“We have completed the necessary official formalities for holing the rally. We had sent separate letters to the Dhaka Metropolitan
Police (DMP) and the Suhrawardy Udyan authorities (Public Works Department) in this regard,” he said.
The BNP leader said that the Public Works Department said that it would not give any objection if the DMP gives green signal.
Rizvi said, their party will hold a joint meeting at 11:00am on Saturday at their party’s central office about the preparation of the meeting.
BNP Publicity Secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie told the reporter that DMP on October 30 asked them to hold the rally at Suhrawardy Udyan any day after November 4 as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday will attend a rally there.
The police said, they need preparation ahead of the November 4 rally, Annie said.
November 6 rally will be the third rally of the Jatiya Oikyafront as the alliance held rallies in Sylhet and Chattogram on 24 and 27 October respectively.
On Thursday night, Oikyafront leaders held a lengthy discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina led 14-party alliance leaders at Ganabhaban.
Briefing reporters about the outcome of the talks, Kamal Hossain said they placed their seven-point demands to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, but did not find any specific solution except some good words about rallies and meetings.
“The Prime Minister delivered a long speech, but we didn’t find any specific solution there. However, she uttered some good words about rallies and meetings,” he said.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, their party is not happy at the talks with the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led 14-party alliance.
“There were discussions on various issues. The Prime Minister said, they will sit again. I, on behalf of my party, can say we’re not happy with today’s discussions.”
