Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Mohammed Nasim on Thursday said the newly elected MPs of Jatiya Oikyafront should swear in and play a positive role in the Parliament.
“I would request the Oikyafront elected MPs to swear in without being hot tempered and join the Parliament. They should honour the people’s mandate by playing a positive role in the Parliament although they are few,” he said. Nasim, also the grand alliance spokesman, was addressing a meeting at Jatiya Press Club here.
Bangamata Parishad organised the meeting, marking the historic Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Chaired by Bangamata Parishad presidium member Muzaffar Hossain Paltu, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr Kanak Kanti Barua and Bangamata Parishad President Anisur Rahman.
Stressing the need for a strong opposition party in the Parliament, Nasim said Jatiya Party could play an effective role in the House to strengthen democracy.
