Officials set humanitarian example rescuing eleven persons from river

In a show of unique humanitarian responsibility and courage, some District Administration Officials rescued eleven persons, including three children, from drowning in the river Brahmaputra near Kamarjani Bandar area under Sadar upazila on Thursday.
Sources said the team comprising Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) ABM Sadiqur Rahman, Sadar UNO M. Shafiqur Rahman and assistant commissioner (Land) Raonak Jahan was going by boat to Purba Batikamari Char to visit the Ashrayan Project.When their boat reached the middle of the river, the officials saw that the passengers of a boat coming from Keranir Char under Kapasia Union under Sundarganj upazila were calling them for help from a sinking boat in the river.
As soon as the boat of the officials neared the perilous spot for eleven persons their ill-fated boat went down under the water and the passengers were shouting ‘save us’, said Abdus Salam Jakir, Chairman of the union parishad who also accompanied the team.
The boat of the officials rushed in and the officials rescued the eleven persons, including three children and their mothers and fathers, from the river one after another.
Later, the victims were sent to the union health sub centre at Goghat area near the Bandar for their treatment and all were reportedly in good health, said Dr. Ranjan Kumar.
When contacted, additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) ABM Sadiqur Rahman confirmed the incident and said he witnessed the situation how the boat was drowning.
The people from all walks of life of the district highly appreciated the rescue operation by the district officials who set up a unique example.
