Malaysian authorities have sent back Odhikar secretary Adilur Rahman Khan after detaining him at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
He returned to Dhaka around 10:30pm Thursday, said Nasiruddin Elan, director of Odhikar, a Bangladeshi human rights organisation. Adilur was due to attend a conference of the Anti-Death Penalty Asia Network in the Malaysian capital but was detained by immigration police after his flight landed there around 4am local time Thursday. Both Adilur and Elan are accused in a case filed over
distortion of facts relating to the Hifazat-e Islam’s Motijheel rally in 2013. The two are facing trial for their report that claimed 61 Hifazat supporters died in Shapla Chattar when a joint raid was launched to end an indefinite sit-in by the radical group.
The Odhikar report is blamed for using distorted facts and photos and declaring as dead several persons who were later found to be alive. Adilur, who served as a deputy attorney general during the coalition government by the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, secured bail after spending time behinds bars.
