An octogenarian homoeopathic physician was chopped to death at Belekhal Bazar under Jhenaidah Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Samir Uddin Mandal, 85, son of late Surat Ali Mandal from Kaluhati village of the same upazila.
Jhenaidah Sadar police officer-in-charge Hasan Hafizur Rahman said, the elderly homoeopathic physician as his routine activities came to his chamber at Belekhal Bazar in the morning.
In the afternoon, some patients and locals rushed there and witnessed that he was almost sleeping on his chair. They had assumed that the elderly man might have died due to cardiac arrest. But their assumption was proved wrong when they saw huge blood lot on his body. They then informed the matter to Jhenaidah police.
The police officer said, probably some unknown persons had killed the physician when he was alone in his chamber. Reason behind the killing incident could not be known immediately. The body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital morgue for post mortem examination. A process was going on to file a case with the police station, OC said.
