Occupiers of canals will be given imprisonment if necessary: DSCC

Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh, mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), has warned that in case of need, a mobile court will be set up against the occupants of the canal. He issued the warning during a view exchange meeting with reporters after inspecting the Shampur canal cleaning on Wednesday (February 2) at afternoon.
Barrister Taposh said, ‘Occupancy is a big problem for the inhabitants of the capital. We will be tougher soon against the occupiers. If necessary, we will be forced to take legal action.
”Referring to the long-term plan for canal conservation, he said, “Our goal is to preserve the canals creating an aesthetic environment out and out and permanently for the city dwellers.” So that, there is no need to continue digging and excavating canals years.
On this issue we have already submitted a project. The project has received some feedback from the Planning Commission. We will re-evaluate and submit them. We are hopeful that if this project is passed, we will be able to get a permanent solution.
” Mayor Taposh said, “We are conducting operations wherever we can. I am continuing the work of evacuation five days a week.
‘Expressing his determination to give more benefits to the city dwellers better than ever, Tapas said, “You have noticed that we actually have a lot of accumulated crisis. We shall solve them one by one. Waterlogging is also a very difficult problem to the people of Dhaka. I was able to give some benefits last year. This time I can give more benefit with target to the long term solution.
