Staff Reporter :A police official of Osmaninagar Police Station died of ‘cardiac arrest’ at Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital (OMCH) on Wednesday afternoon.He fell on the ground at Goalabazar, Sylhet when he tried to quell clashes between two groups of auto-rickshaw workers on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway under the district.The deceased has been identified as Mustafizur Rahman, 48, and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the thana, At least 25 people, including some policemen were injured during the clash.The law enforcers had arrested about 30 people in this connection, police said.Quoting the witnesses and doctors, Nazmul Hasan, Additional Police Superintendent of Sylhet said that the clash broke out between two groups of auto-rickshaw workers around 10:30am over setting up a new auto-rickshaw stand. At one stage of chase and counter-chase between police and auto-rickshaw workers, Mustafizur fell ill and was rushed to the OMCH where the on duty doctors declared him dead around 3:45pm.Additional police had been deployed in the area to avert any unpleasant situation, the police official said.
