Obstruction to BNP leader Alal’s travel illegal : HC

The High Court (HC) on Thursday declared illegal the government action of obstructing BNP leader Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal from leaving Shahjalal International Airport for abroad 17 times since 2013.
The court also directed the authorities concerned of the government not to create any obstruction to Alal while going abroad or returning home in future.
The HC bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the judgement after hearing a writ petition filed by the BNP leader challenging the legality of the government decision to obstruct the petitioner from leaving the country.
Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, a lawyer for Alal, told that the immigration authorities had obstructed his client from going abroad by keeping him waiting at the Dhaka airport 17 times since 2013.
The immigration also lodged 17 alternative general diaries creating obstruction to Alal’s going abroad.The HC declared the alternative general diaries (GD) illegal, he said.
The lawyer said the HC delivered the verdict on the ground that every citizen has right to free movement all over the world subject to restriction issued by the court.
