Entertainment Report :
A full-length documentary film project Obolombon also called as Belonging, telling the story of oppression and struggle of the Rohingya refugees receives this year’s government film-grant of 40 lakhs.
Directed by promising director Abid Hossain Khan and produced by filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain, Belonging is a dialogue between the filmmaker and his subjects that delivers the narrative of 6-year-old Nushaida at the refugee camps in Bangladesh searching for her parents whom she lost while fleeing Myanmar.
Abid Hossain Khan says, “This is a global crisis of our time; thus, I feel the urge to tell this story of borders, boundaries and belonging that has revealed itself through the suffering of the Rohingyas in Bangladeshi refugee camps.”
Rubaiyat Hossain talks about how she involves in the project, “Abid in his previous film ‘20 continuous shorts followed by Siddhartha,’ has captured a personal journey of Dhaka’s slum life and proved his understating of the medium of cinema itself. When he approached us with the idea of this film after spending weeks amongst these Rohingyas in the refugee camps since August 2017, we knew that he is the right person to tell the story of the Rohingyas. We strongly believe that he will be able to make an important and meaningful piece of cinema given his deep personal involvement with the topic.”
The film is being made under the banner of Khona Talkies that aims to create a productive impact on independent cinema in Bangladesh by offering more scopes for emerging filmmakers who are eager to share with the world their fresh and culturally rooted stories.
