Saikat Areng, younger brother of Awami League Central Working Committee member Raymond Areng, died of cancer at a specialized hospital in Mymensingh on Monday night. He was 38.
Saikat is survived by wife and only son.
In a condolence message, Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Saikat Areng.
She prayed for salvation of departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
In separate condolence message, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader also mourned his death.
