Editorial Desk : The Syrian Civil War is a war now taking place in Syria. Protests began on 28 January 2011. Mass protests erupted on 15 March in Damascus and Aleppo, and in following days spread to more cities; that week is considered the beginning of the Syrian uprising. By July 2012, the International Committee of the Red Cross judged the fighting in Syria so widespread that the conflict should be considered a civil war. In our view what President Assad is guilty of is holocaust. But to Americans and other Western countries, only when the Jews are massacred then it is holocaust, but not when the Muslims suffer such tragic brutality. In 2013, Hezbollah entered the war in support of the Syrian army. The Syrian government is further upheld by military support from Russia, which it stepped up in the winter of 2013-14, and Iran, while Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United States. The severity of the humanitarian disaster in Syria has been outlined by UN and many international organizations. More than four million Syrians have been displaced, more than three million Syrians fled the country and became refugees, and millions more were left in poor living conditions with shortage of food and drinking water. The international response to the conflict has been described as a proxy war due to the nature of this involvement. Two rounds of talks have taken place — with the prospect of a third round in the future. Yet none of these have failed to make any headway — over four million Syrians are still displaced, three million are refugees, and over two hundred thousand Syrians have died since the conflict started. By all accounts these are staggering numbers — for a country of only fourteen million people. The butchery of the Syrian government makes the situation similar to the Holocaust where more than six million Jews died. But the international community continues to use proxies in the war without caring for the final numbers of losses in terms of lives —mainly Muslims. This situation is clearly intolerable — yet the West and the US—the leader of the free world, have not engaged in any meaningful action to bring this crisis to an end. There was hope – briefly, for a military action by the US but President Obama let down the free world by not going through with the assault. It is unconscionable that the nation widely considered as the leader of the free world would not go through with any meaningful steps to bring down the despotic government of Assad and his cronies who continue to torture and butcher their own people. We call upon the Western countries and the US in particular under the leadership of President Obama to take meaningful steps to ensure that the current dreadful stalemate does not continue long and to establish — by force, if necessary, the foundations for a government which is acceptable to all Syrians and respecter of human rights. If the USA is not willing to fight for human rights, then the world will have new Hitlers like President Assad. Condemning holocaust of Jews will appear hypocritical.
