New Zealand scored 258 for the loss of five wickets on day 1 against Bangladesh in the first Test at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand on Saturday.
New Zealand had a shaky start after they put on to bat first, as opener Tom Latham (1) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das off left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam when the hosts’ score was just one.
Then, opener Will Young and one-down Devon Conway repaired the damage adding together 138 runs for the second wicket partnership before Will Young was run out by a joint-effort of Najmul Hossain Shanto and Liton Das when the home side’s total was 139 for the loss of two wickets.
Devon Conway knocked a painstaking 122 from 227 deliveries with 16 fours and a sixer.
Conway reached his second 100-run land mark in Test cricket playing 146 balls including 14 fours and one six.
Will Young notched up a sedate 52. His 135-ball innings had six fours. It was Will Young’s third Test half-century.
After dismissal of Will Young, Devon Conway and Ross Taylor put on together 50 runs in the third-wicket stand before Ross Taylor was caught at the cover by Shadman Islam off Shoriful Islam when New Zealand’s score was just 189 for the loss of three wickets.
Ross Taylor made 31 from 64 balls featuring five fours.
After departure of Taylor, Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls built another notable partnership. They scored together 38 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Devon Conway was caught behind by wicketkeeper Liton Das off Mominul Haque when the Kiwis’ total was 227 for the loss of four wickets.
After Conway’s dismissal, fourth-down Tom Blundell (11) was bowled out by right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain when the two umpires drew the bails for the first day.
Henry Nicholls remained unbeaten with 32. He hit five fours in his 63-ball innings.
Left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam bagged two wickets at the cost of 53 runs, while right-arm fast bowler Ebadot Hossain and left-arm spinner Mominul Haque took one wicket each giving 53 and five runs respectively.
