NZ beat BD in 2nd Test Series ends in a draw

Bangladesh lost to Kiwis by an innings and 117 runs in the second Test on the third day at Christchurch in New Zealand on Tuesday. Earlier, Bangladesh defeated New Zealand by eight wickets in the first Test at Mount Maunganui in New Zealand on January 5. Thus, the two-match Test series between Bangladesh and New Zealand ended in a 1-1 draw.
New Zealand declared their first innings after piling up a mammoth total of 521 for the loss of six wickets on the second day (Monday).
In reply, Bangladesh were all out for 126 on the second day.
Thus, Bangladesh were forced to follow-on and made 278 in the second innings on the third day.
Bangladesh had a painful start as opener Shadman Islam (21) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Tom Blundell off Kyle Jamieson when the tourists’ total was 27.
After Shadman’s dismissal, Mohammad Naim and Najmul Hossain Shanto put on together 44 runs in the second wicket stand before Najmul Hossain Shanto (29) was caught at the fine leg by Trent Boult off Neil Wagner when the visitors’ score was 71 for the loss of two wickets.
After Shanto’s departure, Mohammad Naim and Mominul Haque added together 34 runs for the third wicket partnership before Mohammad Naim (24) was caught at the second slip by Tom Latham off Tim Southee when the touring side’s total was 105 for the loss of three wickets.
Mominul Haque (37) was caught at the first slip by Ross Taylor off Neil Wagner when Bangladesh’s score was 123 for the loss of four wickets.
Yasir Ali (2) was caught at the first slip by Tom Latham off Wagner when the tourists’ total was 128 for the loss of five wickets.
After Yasir Ali’s dismissal, Liton Das and Nurul Hasan built a worthy partnership. They scored together 101 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Nurul Hasan (36) was caught at the mid-off by Neil Wagner off Daryl Mitchell when the visitors’ score was 229 for the loss of six wickets.
After Nurul Hasan’s departure, Bangladesh batters failed to make any notable partnership. Liton Das restored some parity for his country hitting a century. Liton notched up a superb 102 from 114 balls with 14 fours and a sixer. It was Liton’s second century in Test cricket.
Kyle Jamieson was the day’s most successful bowler. He captured four wickets at the cost of 82 runs. Neil Wagner grabbed three wickets in the space of 77 runs.
Earlier, Tom Latham hit a terrific 252. Latham was adjudged the Man of the Match. Devon Conway showed a consistent batting performance. He was adjudged the Player of the Series.
