Nusrat murder charges against 16 today

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) members have finalised the charges against 16 people, including prime accused Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa’s ex-Principal Sirajuddoula, for the murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi in Sonagazi Upazila of Feni district. Death sentence has been sought in the final charge sheet for the 16 accused for their direct and indirect role in the killing mission of Nusrat and aiding and abetting the killers. The report will be pressed in a court of Feni today (Wednesday).
 The PBI Chief Banaj Kumar Majumdar said this in a press briefing arranged to provide the latest information to reporters about the investigation of the Nusrat murder case at PBI Headquarters in the city’s Dhanmondi on Tuesday afternoon.

The other accused are Nur Uddin, 20, Shahdat Hossain Shamim, 20, Maksud Alam alias Moksud, 50, Saifur Rahman Mohammad Jobayer, 21, Jabed Hossain alias Sakhwat Hossain Jaber, 19, Hafez Abdul Kader, 25, Afsar Uddin, 33, Kamrun Nahar Moni, 19, Umme Sultana Popy alias Tuhin alias Shampa alias Champa, 19, Abdur Rahim Sharif, 20, Eftekhar Uddin Rana, 22, Imran Hossain alias Mamun, 22, Mohammad Shamim, 20, Ruhul Amin, 55, and Mohiuddin Shakil, 20.
Of the 16 accused, 12 have already given their confessional statement before a magistrate, he said. Ninety-two witnesses have been included in the 772-page charge-sheet. The PBI chief said, adding that they sought highest punishment for the accused.
The 18-year old Nusrat, who was an Alim examinee, suffered 80 per cent burns to her body when she was set on fire on April 6 by four burqa-clad assailants on the roof of the Madrasa at Sonagazi. They killed her because she refused in withdraw an attempted rape case her family had filed against Sirajuddoula. After she was set on fire, her family filed another case against eight people, including Sirajuddoula, on April 8. She died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on April 10, after five days of admission to hospital.
