NUS observes BD NGO Foundation Day

To observe Bangladesh NGO Foundation Day 2016, Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) organized a discussion meeting titled ‘The role of civil society to prevent violence against women’. The event took place at NUS Training Centre, Banasree on Saturday with the support of Bangladesh NGO Foundation (BNF).
Executive Director of NUS Dr. Afroja Parvin presided over the discussion meeting. Dr. AKM Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education attended as the Chief guest in the occasion. Community based Stop Violence Community Team (SVCT) members from 20 slums of Khilgaon Thana and different elite persons of Dhaka city were present in the meeting. Special guests were Dr. Sultan Muhammad Razzak, President of International Culture University, Dr. Shaleha Kader, Chairman & Principal of Cherry Blossoms International School, Dr. Jaharaby Ripon, Director of Proshika. The discussant of the meeting says that, ‘Women are mostly being violated by the very close persons of the family’.
They said through the violation affected not only the women but the bad impacts goes to the next generation, those are the future of the nation. They called the civil society men to come forward for preventing such violation.
Since 1992, NUS has been providing Family counseling, Technical and Non-formal education, Job placement etc., for 7000 poor people of Bangladesh. Moreover, NUS provides legal support to the victims through its own prosecutors since its inception.
