NUS holds award giving ceremony among journos

The journalists were invited by Nari Unnayan Shakti to write 57 articles and to broadcast 15 TV reportings on violence against women and children under the project titled “Empowering the slum women and girls through reducing gender based sexual and domestic violence in family and community”. In response of that, the journalists wrote articles and broadcasted TV reportings in their respective media and submitted their copies to NUS’s Head office. A team of Judges scrutinized their articles and reportings and selected 3 best writers/reporters from print and electronic media both.
On Tuesday NUS organized an award giving ceremony at Zahur Hossain Chowdhury Hall, National Press Club, Dhaka to deliver the awards among the winning Journalist. State Minister, Ministry of Social Welfare Sharif Ahmed, MP was attended as the Chief guest at the event and handed over the crests, cash prize and certificates among the winners. The Chief guest asked the community people to come forward for combating violence against women and children and hope that journalists can play the vital roles in preventing this issue. In the event Mahfuzur Rahman, Editor, UNB and Dr. Sultan Muhammad Razzak, Director (Operation & Marketing), American International Hospital Ltd., Dhaka were present as the special guests. The event was presided over by Dr. Afroja Parvin, Executive Director, Nari Unnayan Shakti. She requested the journalists to continue their keen-edged writings and realistic TV reportings for the betterment of women and children.
Award winners are Rita Bhoymic, Dainik Jugantar- 1st, Nasima Khatun, Dainik Ittefaq,-2nd and Md. Ehsanul Hoque Khan, Dainik Orthoniteer Kagoj and Woazed Hira, Dainik Janakantha jointly 3rd and for reportings in electronic media Sharmin Ibrahim Luna, Banglavision-1st, Sheikh Humayun Kabir Surjo, News 24-2nd and Naznin Akter, Mohona TV-3rd. Crest, cash prize and certificates are given among the winning journalists. The event was organized by Nari Unnayan Shakti and supported by Women’s Fund Asia.
