Chattogram Bureau :
Nursing and midwifery students have started a movement by blocking the road demanding three points demand including lifting the suspension order of the Nursing Council examination. On Saturday they started the movement at the city’s prabartak crossing .
The three-point demand is the ‘Patient Care Technology’ course under Bangladesh Technical Education Board cannot be included in the equivalent of a nursing course, Family Welfare Inspectors (FWBs) cannot be given the status of midwives and the stay order on Nursing Council examination will be lifted within 48 hours.
Bangladesh Student Nurses and Midwives Joint Council Chattogram Mohanagar Branch Convener Aminul Islam told media that nursing and midwives students have come to study with qualifications. There is also a difference in course curriculum between Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council and Technical Patient Care Technology of Technical Education Board.
Besides, students have to study a total of 33 subjects in the whole 3 years. The Family Welfare Inspector, on the other hand, passes SSC and studies only a handful of subjects and completes a course in 18 months, which is never equivalent to a Diploma in Midwifery course. The protesters warned to keep the movement going if the demand is not fulfilled, Nursing College sources said.
