Nursery business ushers hope in Rangpur

Md.Shahzada Khan (26), a jobless and frustrated youth became a successful nursery business man and overcome the poverty taking effort on entrepreneurship. He used to live in Jumma Khan Village at Ranipukur union under Mithapukur upazilla of Rangpur district.
He was the eldest son of the four siblings of his parents. After passing Higher Secondary Certificate examination from a local college, he could not continue education further due to hardship in life.
He felt to support his family to overcome the hurdles. The family had only thirty decimals of lands. He started to search job, but could not find any suitable. Later, he joined the Empower Youth for Work [EYW] project of RDRS, Bangladesh in his village in which he received entrepreneurship development training on nursery.
He also received life skills and soft skills training from the project that added an extra dimension in his profession and career. He started nursery farming on their 30 decimals lands receiving taka fifteen thousand credits from the project.
He planted different saplings and plants in his nursery.
Varieties of flowers, vegetables and plants were grown massively in his small lands. He started selling the plants and sapling varieties to different buyers and got profit. He also used to suggest the plant lovers how to take care of the garden, rooftop farming and use medicine for better output. He also earned money by offering extra service to the people.
The project authority later appointed him as a trainer of entrepreneurship program for his success in small business from which he also gets remuneration.
He earned at least Tk 30 thousands at present from different sources including nursery business. When asked, Shahzada said, it was really tough to overcome the hardships of life. Skills are very important to succeed in life. SO, I was determined and involved my engagement for acquiring skills in different measures to improve my lot and became succeeded.
Empower Youth for Work [EYW] project of RDRS, Bangladesh funded by OXFAM Bangladesh works for sustainable development of the unemployed youth in the district providing training on life and soft skills including nursery, livestock, IT and report writing, said,EYW project coordinator, Dipok Chandra Nath.
