Nurul Haque Nur has said that he will swear as the Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) today.
The VP-elect announced his decision in a press briefing at Madhur Canteen, Dhaka University, on Friday afternoon.
Additionally, he vowed to continue pressing for DUCSU re-election and to resolve other issues related to the interests of general students after taking charge.
“I have taken the decision prioritising the opinion of most of the general students of
Dhaka University,” he said in the press briefing. Nur, a popular figure from the quota reform movement, was elected VP in the DUCSU election on March 11 boycotted by most of the participating panels including his own.
One of his panel members, Akhter Hossain, won the social service secretary post.
On March 17, at a separate press conference of Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, Nur demanded repolling and alleged that the March 11 election was not held in a free, fair and credible manner.
He placed the demand just a day after he along with other elected student representatives met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban and begged her all-out cooperation in proper functioning of DUCSU for the welfare of all students.
In his speech at the Ganabhaban, Nur said many BCL men were also present alongside DUCSU and hall union leaders at the Prime Minister’s office on Saturday and that is why he could not say many things to the premier. He also claimed to have lost concentration there.
The 28-year-long wait to DUCSU election was held amid election boycott by most of the major panels over allegations of irregularities and vote rigging.
