A Narayanganj court on Friday sent Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the sensational seven-murder case, to jail, a day after he was brought back home from India. Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahidul Islam passed the order after police produced him before the court around 2:30 pm, said Court Inspector Habibur Rahman Miah. Nur Hossain was shown arrested in 11 cases, including the seven-murder case, filed with Shiddhirganj and Fatullah police stations. He was brought to Narayanganj from the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) headquarters in Dhaka in the morning. Earlier, Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed Nur Hossain over to a Bangladesh joint team of police and Border Guard Bangladesh on the no-man’s land between Indian Petrapole and Bangladeshi Benapole check-posts on completion of formalities around 11:30 pm on Thursday. Nur Hossain and two other accused in the case– Khan Sumon and Wahiduzzaman – were arrested from an apartment in Kolkata on June 14, 2014. Earlier on October 16, an Indian court ordered extradition of Nur Hossain to Bangladesh by December 15 next. Acting District and Sessions Judge of the North 24 Parganas district at Barasat in West Bengal passed the order withdrawing the case against him under Section 14 of the Indian Foreigners Act. On April 27, 2014, Narayanganj panel mayor Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of Narayanganj. At the same time, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to capital Dhaka. Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including those of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya River on April 30 in the same year. The following day, the body of Jahangir, car driver of Nazrul Islam, was also recovered from the river. Nur Hossian, a Narayanganj city Awami League leader and also a councillor, and his associates went into hiding following the abduction and killing of the seven people. Shahidul Islam alias Shahid chairman, father-in-law of slain Nazrul Islam, alleged that some officials of elite force Rab killed Nazrul Islam in exchange for Tk 6 crore from city councillor Nur Hossain.– Narayanganj, Nov 13 (UNB)
