A dual-gauge railway line will be constructed soon between Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant and Ishwardi junction in Pabna.
Bangladesh Railway on Tuesday signed a contract in this regard with GPT-SEL-CCCL JV, a Indo-Bangla joint venture company in presence of Railway Minister Md Mazibul Hoque in the Rail Bhaban in Dhaka.
Md Mujibur Rahman, General Manager, Bangladesh Railway, West Zone, signed on behalf of Bangladesh Railway, while Subhash Chandra Hawlader, Managing Director of Standard Engineers Ltd. signed on behalf of Indo-Bangla joint venture company Standard Engineers Ltd, Castle Construction Ltd
of Bangladesh and GTP infra projects Ltd of India.
The dual gauge line will be 26.5 kilometres long. It will carry goods and machinery to the plant.
The expenditure of the project will be Tk 297.55 crore. It will take 18 months to complete the construction work.
Railway Minister Md Mazibul Hoque chaired the signing ceremony.
He said the government has given special importance to the railways to quicken the country’s progress and development.
He said also, the nuclear power plant will be very important project in the country.
The new rail track will link the project with main track of rail aiming to carry important materials and machinery from Chattogram and Mongla Ports to Rooppur, south of the Paksey Railway Station.
The Minister said, a 4-kilometer loop line, a new railway station, a platform, seven culverts, 13 level crossings and signaling systems will be constructed.
Railway Ministry’s Secretary Mozammel Hossain, Railway Director General Amzad Hossain and GPT-SEL-CCCL JV’s Chief Executive Officer Kazi Nabil Ahmed, among others, were present.
