An international expert on nuclear energy has said that generating electricity from nuclear power plant is cheaper than the electricity we are getting from various renewable resources.
Kirill Komarov, First Deputy CEO of Russia’s State Nuclear Energy Corporation – Rosatom – has come up with this observation as he was talking with media, highlighting the long-term economic benefits of nuclear energy, according to a Rosatom release received here on Tuesday.
“Nevertheless nuclear energy is much cheaper as renewable resources for energy need additional back up facilities,” he said.
Komarov explained that preserving energy from renewable resources and transmitting the electricity through national grid requires higher additional cost.
“Taking into the account of this additional cost, nuclear is still at least twice as cheaper than wind and thrice as cheaper than solar,” he said.
Sharing the experience of Rosatom, he said the company has found investment in nuclear power pays more dividend than the investment in renewable energy sector.
As far as safety and security are concern, he said the technology for nuclear energy has reached to a new height of safety standard, ensuring that a nuclear plant can produce electricity safely for at least 60 years from commissioning of the plant.
He also put emphasis on nuclear energy for cutting the carbon emission.
