Dr Mubashar Hasan alias Caesar, Assistant Professor of the North South University (NSU) reportedly went missing since Tuesday.
The NSU Political Science and Sociology Department’s teacher left his home at Banasree in the capital around 7:00am on Tuesday and spoke to his father in the afternoon, which was the last conversation between father and son.
The victim’s family filed a general diary (GD) with Khilgaon Police Station under Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Wednesday, cops said.
Manzur Hossain, Senior Research Fellow of Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS), said “His nephew left his home at Banasree on Tuesday morning for the university. Hasan spoke to his father for the last time in the afternoon. He was supposed to return home at 9:00pm, but his mobile was switched off since 4:00pm.”
Dr. Mubashar was afraid of his life’ as a person, identifying himself as one of his students, went to his house on October 25 and asked for him in his absence, he said.
Following this, Mubashar himself installed close circuit cameras around his house and complained of security concerns.
Hasan’s uncle and BIDS Researcher Manzur Hossain said, “He also had some family problems. We have considered all these aspects and informed the police and asked everyone to help.”
Khilgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mashiur said that the vicitim’s father Motahar Hossain filed the GD around 1:00am on Wednesday.
He said, “We have received the complaint. The incident is under investigation.”
Acting on GD, police are trying to locate Mubashar Hasan. His whereabouts is yet to be known, OC added.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, law enforcers have sufficient information about his disappearance right now.
They are definitely trying their best to rescue him, he said at a programme organised by Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) in the capital on Wednesday afternoon.
Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism graduate Mubashar Hasan had, at one point, been a journalist. He completed his Master’s in the UK and obtained his PhD in Australia. Hasan was researching militancy in society, his uncle claimed, according to family sources.
