NSC held anti terrorism, militancy rally

Amidst great enthusiasm people from all walk of life took part in an anti terrorism and militancy rally yesterday organised by National Sports Council (NSC) in the city with a view to transmit the message of peace, tolerance and friendship in the society through sports.
The rally began at 11 am at Bangabandhu National Stadium and terminated at the National Press Club after passing through Zero point.
It was a grand rally with State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Biren Sikder leading the way with hundreds of youths taking part. Mayor of Chittagong Mir Nasir and a great sports patron flew from Chittagong to make the rally a success one.
Against the backdrop of the recent terrorist acts, the sports community on Wednesday held a rally voicing against militancy, saying, “We, all the people of sports world, are now taking oath to eliminate terrorism and militancy from the country.”
Over 5,000 representatives from different federations and associations including Bangladesh Football Federation, Handball Federation, Volleyball Federation and Bangladesh Surfing Association, different sports journalists associations, players and organisers of different sports, different teams
including Swadhin Bangla Football Team took part in the rally.
All the sports organisations along with anti-militancy banners and placards took part in the rally which was brought out from the Bangabandhu National Stadium at 11 am and ended in front of the Jatiya Press Club after marching through different city streets.
The State Minister said, “We want to stop militancy and terrorism aimed at continuing the development projects taken by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as an evil force is trying to put an end to the country’s progress as well as tarnish its image.”
“We, the sports community, have just taken an oath from the rally to stop militancy from the country,” he said, calling upon all to stand against militancy from their respective positions.
Among others, Chittagong City Corporation (NCC) Mayor AZM Nasir, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, Naimur Rahman Durjoy, MP, Sports Secretary of Awami League Dewan Safiul Arefin Tutul, Secretary of Youth and Sports Ministry Akhteruddin Ahmed, captain of Bangladesh national Cricket Team Mashrafe Bin Murtaza and Mushfiqur Rahim also took part in the rally.
