UNB, Dhaka :
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday scrapped the High Court (HC) verdict that banned for six months the screening of ‘Rana Plaza’, a film based on the rescue of victim Reshma alive from the ruins of Rana Plaza building after 17 days of its collapse.
A four-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order in response to an appeal filed by Shamima Akhker, producer of the movie.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state, while Rokan Uddin and AM Amin Uddin stood for the petitioner.
Now, there are no more
hurdles for the release of the movie, said A M Amin Uddin, lawyer of the producer.
On August 24, the High Court banned for six months the screening of ‘Rana Plaza’, a film made on the rescue of victim Reshma alive from the ruins of Rana Plaza building after 17 days of its collapse, saying that the movie was made ignoring the guidelines set by the court earlier.
The court passed the order after a hearing on a petition filed by Garment Sramik Association. The film, directed by Nazrul Islam Khan, was scheduled to be released on September 4. Rescuers retrieved 19-year-old Reshma from under the rubble after 17 days of the worst-ever building collapse tragedy in Bangladesh’s history that left over 1100 people dead in April 2013.
