High-rise buildings need clearance for habitation. No one can live or establish commercial offices in any multistoried building without clearance.
Sources said, Cabinet Division on April 11 has sent letters to Home Ministry, Relief and Disaster Management and Housing and Public Works Ministries to take necessary measures in this regard.
Sources also said, the said ministries will finalise the criteria of the certifications in this month.
It said, it will be checked strictly whether the buildings were constructed as per national building code or not.
It will give importance on taking of approvals about the building designs from the concerned authority, to keep emergency exit doors, more doors,
windows and balconies.
After getting certificate, the utility services like gas, water and electricity will be connected in those buildings.
“Necessary measures will be taken as per the directions of the Cabinet division. The criteria will be finalis ed soon after meeting with the concern officials of those ministries,” said SM Golam Faruque, Senior Secretary of the Local Government.
Officials said that the ministries have been directed to submit the progress report to the cabinet on this issue within four days in every month.
Related sources said, the government has taken the stern decision after the inferno at Chawkbazar on February 20 and FR Tower on March 28.
