The local administration has decided to put entire Madaripur district under lockdown to contain the spared of coronavirus.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting at the office of deputy commissioner of the district on Thursday noon.
As per the decision, the lockdown will come into effect at 10pm on Thursday and it will continue until further notice.
However, the vehicles and people engaged in providing emergency services and medicine shops will
remain out of purview of the lockdown.
Besides, all the shops of daily essentials will remain closed after 12pm every day.
Earlier, Shibchar, Rajoir and Kalkini upazilas in the district were put under lockdown. As the number of the coronavirus cases continues to raise, the authorities now decided to lock down the entire district.
A press release issued by the administration said the step has been taken as people have got panicked over the coronavirus infection.
It also said stern action, including imposing fine, will be taken if anyone comes out of home without reason until the lockdown order is withdrawn.
The administration also urged all not to get panicked, but take the suggestions of doctors if any symptom of the virus develop in their bodies.
Madaripur has so far reported 23 coronavirus cases.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh experienced a record number of 10 COVID-19 deaths and fresh cases in the last 24 hours as of Thursday noon.
Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said they documented 10 deaths in one day, the largest figure so far, taking the total death toll to 60.
In the daily health bulletin of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), she also said the record number of 341 people tested positive for coronavirus during the period, increasing the number of such cases in the country to 1,572.
This is the third day in a row that Bangladesh reported a record high number of new COVID-19 patients. Nasima said 2,019 samples were tested during the same period.
