Novo Nordisk, the world’s largest insulin maker, provides first aid and diabetes screening to the visitors of Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) to create awareness on preventing diabetes at an early stage.
The company also provides ambulance services to the visitors at the DITF, the country’s largest international trade fair, where 1,500 visitors get free screening every day, said a press release on Thursday.
The health services booth of Novo Nordisk is ready to provide emergency support to the visitors all the time during the fair, said a doctor at Novo Nordisk’s health booth.
“We’re serving visitors from our commitment towards society and people living with diabetes,” said A Rajan Kumar, Managing Director of Novo Nordisk.
“Last year, we screened 30,000 visitors and helped them gain knowledge on diabetes,” said Dr Mohammad Saiful, Head of Marketing of Novo Nordisk.
Novo Nordisk distributes flyers, brochures, leaflets, pamphlets to educate visitors on diabetes prevention, control and its complications.
“Novo Nordisk organises many awareness campaigns – World Diabetes Day, Novo Nordisk Dhaka Half Marathon – run for changing diabetes and Awareness Camps, in the country to create awareness on diabetes beside DITF. We are helping children living with diabetes under CDiC (changing diabetes® in children) programme, which is the world’s largest clinic for children,” Dr Saiful said.
The number of people with diabetes in Bangladesh stood at 7.1 million in 2015 putting it among top 10 countries in the world and it will hit 13.6 million by 2040 taking it to the 9th position globally, according to International Diabetes Federation.
Novo Nordisk is giving top priority to support this growing treatment need of people living with diabetes.
