Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokan advised all not to get scared over chikungunya disease caused by a new virus.
“There is nothing to get panicked. It’s a new virus and there is no need of taking anti-virus. The fever is curable within seven days with taking paracetamol only,” he said this on Sunday while inaugurating a crash programme for preventing chikungunya and dengue at a function at Battola of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in the city.
DSCC Health Department is implementing the seven-day crash programme to eradicate mosquito by spraying medicines.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Quamrul Hasan Khan addressed the inaugural function as special guest.
DSCC Chief Executive Officer Khan Md Billah and senior officials were present on the occasion.
Sayeed Khokan said a number of people have been affected by the virus but none died. Awareness should be created among the mass people about this disease, he added.
