Rain hampered part of the first day’s play as BCB North Zone in the remaining time scored 204 for 5 against Islami Bank East Zone in the fifth round of four-day Bangladesh Cricket League held on Tuesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
Sohag Gazi threatened early inroad on North Zone innings as he removed both the North Zone openers, first Junaid Siddique for (7) and then Mizanur Rahman for (46), after East Zone asked North Zone to bat first.
Mohammad Saifuddin then send back Farhad Hossain (8), leaving North Zone 87 for 3.
Nazmul Hossain Shanto and skipper Jahurul Islam took the responsibility to stop the rot as the duo shared an important 77-run four wicket partnership to take the team to a comfortable position.
Shanto composed 73-run off 109-ball hitting 11 boundaries before he fell to Mohammad Ashraful while Jahurul kept his wicket intact at the end of the day with a responsible knock of 43 runs along with Ariful Haque 17 as the stumps were drawn for the day.
Mohammad Ashraful and Sohag Gazi were the most successful bowlers as they bagged two North Zone wickets’ conceding 22 and 60 runs respectively.
