Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor distributed relief goods as Chief Guest among 625 flood affected families arranged by United Nations Development Organisation (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and China Embassy located in Bangladesh at Sadar Upazila Parishad, Nilphamari on Saturday .
He said, ‘we want to become such a nation, where we do not have to take any relief from anyone. We want to stand on our own feet. The government has introduced various technical training programmes to create jobs. Our boys and girls will be able to stand on their feet with the technical training.
Besides, fish farming and poultry farming can be used for employment. With the new method, the unused land can be used for agricultural production. To overcome the disaster of past flood, local assistance, Government and various NGOs have been supported with relief. Hearty thanks to UNDP and China for coming forward.
Deputy Representative Leoree Katto of UNFPA Bangladesh, Sudipta Mukherjee, Country Director of UNDP, Economic Councilor Lee Goangjun, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Khaled Rahim, Police Super Zakir Hossain Khan, Nilphamari Mayor Dewan Kamal Ahmed, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Abujar Rahman, UNDP Project Management Advisor Ardhendu Shekhar Rai, Practical Action Strategic Lead Nazmul Islam Chowdhury, Head of Program of SKS Rajab Ali and others.
The meeting was presided over by Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Mamun Bhuiyan.
Earlier, the minister distributed relief goods on behalf of the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management among the 15 families affected by fire in the district headquarters.
UNDP Project Management Adviser Ardhendu Shekhar Roy said, relief materias have been provided among 13 thousand 910 families of Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Bogra and Nilphamari districts.
