Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor called for conducting new researches over museum to create experts in this area. “Though unfortunate, it is true that we are lagging behind in this area (museum) in the present global perspectives,” he said this on Sunday while speaking as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of an exhibition of contemporary arts and a seminar on the occasion of ‘International Museum Day 2014’ at the National Museum in the city.
The minister said the cultural affairs ministry is trying to identify and resolve the problems faced by the National Museum and its associated organizations.
Among the problems, lack of adequate fund and scarcity of experts are the two acute ones, he said and called for developing experts through new researches.
Noor said mere having a collection of artifacts is not enough for a museum. The artifacts would have to be preserved and displayed properly, he added.
Besides, new relics would have to be collected, he said and suggested reaching the museum to the rural people without keeping it confined to Dhaka.
The cultural affairs minister said the present government is working relentlessly to flourish the indigenous culture. The government is considering building a ‘Natural History Museum’ along with the National Museum, he added. Presided over by National Museum Board of Trustees Chairman M Azizur Rahman, the inaugural ceremony was addressed by Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Cultural Affairs Ministry Simin Hossain Rimi, Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr. Ranajit Kumar Biswas and Dean of Dhaka University Fine Arts Faculty Prof Syed Abul Bark Alvee as special guests.
