Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim said none will die from starving in the country as long as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is alive.
“No one will die from starving as long as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is alive as she has ensured reaching food assistance at doorsteps of the workless and insolvent people,” he said this on Wednesday while inaugurating a relief distribution programmes with his own fund in his home constituency’s (Pirojpur-1) municipality areas.
The minister said that the programme for providing food assistance to 50 lakh poor and distressed people has already started across the country and a new list of another 50 lakh people is being prepared.
The food assistance programme will continue for 3 years, he added.
Pirojpur Deputy (DC) Commissioner Abu Ali Md Sajjad Hossain, Superintendent of Police Md Hayatul Islam Khan, District Awami League General Secretary MA Hakim Hawlader, Vice-President Shahjahan Khan Talukder, District Awami League Joint Secretary Akhtaruzzaman Fulu, Organizing Secretary Ziaul Ahsan Gazi and Former Central Jubo League member Kamruzzaman Khan Shamim were present on the occasion, among others.
About 15,000 relief packets were distributed among the workless and distressed people in 252 wards of two municipal areas and 26 unions of Pirojpur-Nazirpur and Swarupkathi upazilas.
Later, Rezaul inaugurated Trading Corporation of Bangladesh’s (TCB) open market sale (OMS) programme at CI Para of the city for workless and low-income people.
