Staff Reporter :Intermittent rain continues since Thursday night in the whole of Bandarban district which inundated low-lying areas like Lama, Ruma, Thansi, Alikadam, Naikkhangchhari and Roangchhari. As a result, most of the areas went under 7 to 8 feet water.According to sources, at least 30,000 families are marooned in flash flood. Hundreds of houses were submerged by the tidal wave.The government relief is not sufficient against the demand of the affected people. There is a huge crisis in drinking water, said the sources. Road Communications between Bandarban and Rangamati with rest of the country remained snapped due to the collapse of a bridge at Shualak in Sadar upazilas. Road communication between the two districts have also been suspended for the last eight days as all the roads went under water.Brigadier General Abdul Wahab, Commander of Roads and Highways Department of Bangladesh Army said Ruma and Thansi upazilas will be disconnected from the Sadar upazila until repairing of the roads. The communications are likely to be restored by one month. The army has already started to repair the roads. “We are trying to complete the repairing work as soon as possible,” he said. District Council Chairman Kaisho Hila said, “We are providing the relief and cash among the flood affected people.” So far 81 metric tonnes rice and Tk 3.81 lakh have been distributed among the affected people.
