The non-stop raining is continuing for consecutive fourth day from Thursday in Chittagong and adjoining districts areas paralysed the civic life .
The most affected people are day labourers because due to incessant rain the constsruction workers of all sorts have been stalled for the last few days, a number of sufferers said. Lowlying areas of the city including the adjoining upazila areas of Hathazari, Raozan, Fatikchari and Rangunia in north Chittagong and Boalkhali, Patiya, Anowara, Banskhali, Chandanaish in south Chittagong badly affected with rain water.
The maximum low lying areas of the port city went into knee-deep water during the day-long monsoon rain. The Bay of Bengal is very rough due to monsoon rain started from Tuesday. The meteorological department advised the ports to hoist Signal number 3.
Meanwhile, loading and unloading at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port has been disrupted due to rough weather. The unloading of rice from the ship MV Visad which was started at Chittagong port from Tuesday morning remained stopped yesterday due to the rough weather. According to sources, heavy downpour disrupted the normal life of the people of greater Chittagong.
Most of the areas of Chittagong, including the low-lying areas of the port city and coastal areas of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, offshore island Kutubdia, Mohesh Khali, Teknaf inundated following heavy torrential rains. The raining has continued from Tuesday to till filling this report.
The heavy shower affected the normal life of the city. The streets looked vacant, as the movement of vehicles and the pedestrians was negligible due to heavy shower. The low-lying areas of the port city including Bakalia, Chandgaon, Bahadderhat, Chawk Bazar, Badurtala, Nasirabad, Halishahar, Patenga, Kattali, and Chaktai have gone under knee-deep water following the torrential rains for several hours. So the inhabitants of those low-lying areas remained stranded for inundation.
Meanwhile, the road communications of Chittagong with Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar have also been disrupted as the Arakan road is flooded due to the rain and tidal water. The tidal waters entered the coastal areas at Halishahar, Anwara, Banshkhali in Chittagong as the coastal embankment from Patenga to Sitakunda and Anwara and Banshkhali damaged at many places.
