The teachers and employees of the non-MPO educational institutions continued their fast unto death programme on Wednesday for the fourth consecutive day demanding enlistment under the government’s Monthly Payment Order (MPO) facility. In front of National Press Club in Dhaka, the teachers vowed not to
backtrack from the hunger strike until their demand is met. The protest programme is underway under the Federation of Teachers and Employees of Non-MPO Educational Institutions. Rashedul Islam Rashed, central member of the federation told risingbd.com, “We are continuing the non-stop strike from last nine days. A total of 52 teachers fall ill. Golam Mahmudunnabi, president of the demonstrating banner ‘Non-MPO Educational Institution Teacher-Staff Federation and general secretary professor Binay Bhushan are still continuing the hunger strike.”
Earlier on Tuesday, the hunger-striking teachers rejected the assuring words of Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
Following the issue, Rashedul Islam Rashed said, “They will end the hunger strike if the assurance comes from the Prime Minister’s side.”
