Non-food inflation in March, 2014 declined by 0.11 percent (pc), according to the latest data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) yesterday (Sunday).
The non-food inflation stood at 5.26pc down from 5.37pc in February.
However, the point-to-point national inflation in March soared by 0.04pc as it reached 7.48pc up from 7.44pc in February.
“The inflation increased slightly as the businessmen are trying to recover their losses raising the price, which losses they had incurred during the political instability last year,” Golam Mostafa Kamal,
BBS Director General, told reporters while releasing the monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) at a press conference in his office.
He said that the food inflation also soared by 0.12pc in March mainly due to upward trend of some food items.
The national food inflation stood at 8.96pc, up from 8.84pc in February this year.
The point-to-point inflation rate in March 2013 was 7.55pc.
