The Election Office has canceled the nominations of one of the 10 chairman candidates of the two unions in the forthcoming seventh phase of Union Parishad (UP) elections in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj.
Besides, nomination papers of 98 members including 9 chairman candidates have been declared valid. Nomination papers was submitted by an ordinary member have also been rejected. Upazila Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer Ujjal Kumar Roy confirmed the information on Sunday. It is learned that after scrutinizing the nomination papers of the candidates from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday, the nomination papers for the post of chairman and one member have been canceled those are -Awami League candidate Moinul Haque, Independent candidate Abdur Razzak B.Sc.
The nomination papers of Awami League candidate Habilur Rahman Habib, Independent candidates Abdul Hannan Sarkar, Saidur Rahman, Abdus Sattar and Abul Basar for the post of chairman of Madhainagar Union were declared valid. In Baruhas Union, Idris Ali-backed Jaker Party-backed candidate has also been disqualified due to default. Nomination papers of 84 candidates for reserved seats in 2 unions and 24 candidates for general member posts have been declared valid.
