BSS, Barguna :
Noise pollution has become intolerable in the towns of the district.
Drivers on the roads use horns as they wish, and loudspeakers are indiscriminately used for various purposes causing intolerable environment for the dwellers in the district and upazila towns.
Local people said inaction and irregular inspection by the authorities concerned have largely contributed to the deterioration of the situation.
Drivers of buses, trucks, microbuses and three-wheelers are using hydraulic horns that cause deafening noise as the authorities concerned are not monitoring the situation to control, alleged Rezaul Karim, a teacher of MU Girls High School.
Dr. Abdul Motin, Upazila Health Administrator (UHA) Amtali said, polluters are callous and have no consideration whether the sound, they are generating, is within the tolerable limit of human being (45 decibels).
Sound pollution beyond this level causes serious health hazards to children, pregnant women and patients suffering from cardiac and respiratory ailments, he added.
