The BRTA and the Department of Environment have launched movement to control the excess noise horn in the capital. During the drive, many horns were put-out from several vehicles. They have chosen Gulshan-1 as first case.
A mobile court of BRTA and the Department of Environment launched a crackdown on noise polluting horns at Gulshan-1 from 11am on Tuesday (May 18).
It was seen on the spot that traffic seized a private car during the operation. Later its horn was tested. Although the private car is quite old model, it has been modified and fitted with hydraulic horn. Examination showed that the private car caught 102 decibels of noise. But, in the capital, it is legal to sound the horn of maximum 80 decibels.
A BRTA official who took part in the operation said that the extra sound horns used in a total of eight vehicles were kept open on that day. During the drive, Rover Scouts took to the streets with banners and festoons with various slogans like “Don’t blow the horn unnecessarily.”
Regarding the operation, BRTA Executive Magistrate M Sajjadul Hasan said, “It is a regular operation of BRTA.” Today we also took part in a joint campaign with the Department of Environment. This campaign will be continued.
He said various fines have been imposed as per BRTA Act-2018 and Noise Pollution Rules-2006 of Environment Act.
