The State Minister for Shipping Ministry Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said none would be allowed to grab river in future and all rivers would be freed from illegal grabbers in phases.
The minister said this on Sunday while inaugurating of Sheikh Hasina Bridge at Shibchar in Madaripur.
The 99 meter long bridge has been constructed by LGED at a cost of Taka 10 crore.
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said 200 dredgers will be procured for river dredging in next one year and modern technology would be used in dredging.
The minister also said that his government has under a plan to dredge ten thousand kilometers river ways in future.
Secretary to the Shipping Ministry Abdus Samad chaired the function while Chief Whip Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury was present as special guest.
Chairman of BIWTA Commodore Mahbub-ul-Islam, Chairman at BIWTC Pranoy Kanti Biswas, Deputy Commissioner of Madaripur Wahidul Islam and Police Super Subroto Kumar Halder were present.
