Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi, an Indian social activist, called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique on Saturday at the latter’s office of the university.
Former advisor to the caretaker government Rasheda K Chowdhury, acting dean of DU Social Sciences Faculty Prof Shafique-uz Zaman and Professor of the Department of Development Studies Taiabur Rahman were present, among others, on the occasion.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues including overall development of education.
They emphasized on universal education to ensure the society free from terrorism, fundamentalism and many of the evils.
The VC thanked the guest for his visit to the university and showing keen interest in its academic activities.
Later, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi delivered a public lecture on “Education for Sustainable Development” organized by the Social Sciences Faculty at Muzaffar Ahmed Chowdhury Auditorium of the university.
