A councillor of Noapara municipality in Jessore was gunned down by miscreants at Guakhola village in Abhaynagar upazila on Sunday morning. The deceased identified as Oliar Rahman, 50, son of Gafur Molla, a resident of the same village, was also joint general secretary of the Abhaynagar upazila unit of Awami League. Quoting locals, police said Oliar came under attack by a group of miscreants on his way back home after saying Fazr prayers at a local mosque at about 7:30 am. The attackers fired two shots at him near his residence in the area, leaving him injured. Oliar died on way to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Chhoyer Uddin, officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar Police Station, confirmed the incident.—UNB, Jessore.
