The assaulted woman, 37, of Noakhali’s Begumganj has filed a rape case against the main accused Delwar Hossain, the chief of notorious Delwar Bahini, and his accomplice Abul Kalam.
Begumganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Harun-ur-Rashid Chowdhury confirmed that the woman filed the case with the Begumganj Model Police Station under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act
at around 8:30 pm on Tuesday.
The case has been filed a day after the tortured woman told the National Human Rights Commission’s investigation team that he raped her.
According to the case statement and police sources, Delwar raped the woman twice a year ago.
Earlier on Tuesday, the National Human Rights Commission’s investigation team reported that the tortured woman had been raped by Delwar.
Al-Mahmud Faizul Kabir, head of the investigation team, director of Human Rights Commission (allegations and investigations), told reporters at a briefing at the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court auditorium that the victim alleged that Delwar had offered to have sexual relations with her. He threatened her when she did not respond to the proposal.
“A year ago, Delwar entered the woman’s house and raped her. A few days before last Ramadan, Delwar called the woman to a boat through his associate Kalam and raped her again,” said Faizul Kabir.
Regarding the absence of Delwar’s name in the first two cases of torture, Faizul Kabir said, “The victim told me that she had not filed a case against Delwar due to a lack of security. Delwar’s name was not mentioned in the statement of Section 22 only because of a lack of protection and fear. He also threatened the woman to leak the rape videos on Facebook.”
On September 2, members of the Delwar Bahini entered the woman’s house, tied her husband up, physically abused her and recorded it on a mobile phone.
On October 4, they leaked the recorded video and it spread through social media. Later, the victim filed a separate case with Begumganj Police Station, naming Delwar Bahini member Badal as the main accused and nine other members.
Begumganj Police Station OC Harun Aur Rashid said, “Delwar is currently in remand in an arms case filed by RAB at Siddhirganj Police Station in Narayanganj. An application was filed in the court yesterday for his arrest in the previous two cases filed by the abused woman. Police are trying to arrest accused Abul Kalam.”
