Following Qatar’s diplomatic problems with the neighbouring countries, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam on Wednesday said Bangladeshi workers in the Gulf country will not be affected.
He made the remarks while speaking at a consultation on challenges of women migrant workers of Bangladesh and addressing the role of intermediaries at the Probashi Kalyan Bahban.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Begum Shamsun Nahar also said the labour market in Qatar will not be affected as Bangladesh maintains its individual relationship with each country in the Middle East. ‘We aren’t working with any alliance. So, there’ll be no problem for us,” she said.
Bangladeshi Ovhibashi Mohila Sramik Association (BOMSA) in collaboration with British Council’s PROKAS programme organised the consultation held with Manusher Jonno Foundation Executive Director Shaheen Anam in the chair.
At least six countries-Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, the UAE, Yemen, Libya and the Maldives-on Monday severed the diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing it of collaborating with ‘Iran-backed terrorist groups’.
