UNB, Magura :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday called on people not to vote for those to power who indulged in corruption, engaged in terrorism and militancy and killed people in arson attacks as they will push the country towards destruction again.
“If those who rigged your votes, those who were pulled down by people for vote rigging, those whose prime task was to indulge in corruption, terrorism, militancy and killing people in arson attacks come to power again they will drive the country to the path to destruction as they don’t believe in Bangladesh’s independence,” she said.
The Prime Minister was speaking at a mammoth rally here at Freedom Fighter Asaduzzaman Stadium with Magura district AL president Alhaj Tanjil Hossain Khan in the chair.
Sheikh Hasina, who is also the President of ruling Awami League, said the next election will be held in 2019 and urged people to cast their votes in favour of Awami League and its election symbol ‘Boat’ to give them another chance to serve them.
“Our only aim is to build the country as developed and prosperous one and we’re working restlessly towards that goal,” she said.
Expressing her heartfelt gratitude to people for repeatedly voting for AL, she said, “We hope you’ll again give your mandate in favour of us in the next election. Vote for the Boat that brought you the independence, right to speak in Bengali and massive development activities,” she said.
Hasina urged all to come under the AL flag and strengthen the hands of the party for the country’s development.
“I want to tell you one thing that I don’t have anything to gain for my own because I lost everything. Losing everything, I’ve to you, among the people of this Bengal. I’ve got my lost affection of my parents, brothers among you. I put my life for your progress and development,” she told the rally.
She sought cooperation from all to turn the country into a poverty, hunger, and illiteracy free middle income digital nation by 2021 and a front ranking developed one in South Asia by 2041.
The Prime Minister said the government is implementing various programmes, including providing free textbooks and financial assistance, to inspire students to pursue education.
She said students’ stipend money is now being sent to mobile accounts of 1.30 crore mothers as the government wants to see smile on their faces.
Hasina also urged imams, teachers and guardians to keep a constant vigil so that children do not get involved in militancy, terrorism and drug addiction.
She also called upon all concerned to find out whether any student remains absent from any educational institution for a long time, and take necessary steps in this regard.
The Prime Minister reiterated that her government will provide necessary assistance and cooperation if anyone wants to return to normal life shunning the path of militancy, terrorism and drug addiction.
She said the government has set up 16,438 community clinics and union health centres across the country to reach the health care facilities to the doorsteps of rural people.
Hasina also said poverty has been reduced to 22 percent due to various types of allowances being distributed by the government.
The Prime Minister once again claimed that Awami League was defeated in the 2001 election through a conspiracy hatched by India’s intelligence agency RAW and the US to take control of the country’s natural gas reserves. “Khaleda Zia had given undertaking to sell natural gas of Bangladesh,” she said.
While talking about the demands of the people of Magura, she assured them that the district will be brought under rail network to fulfill their aspirations.
