There will be no joint military parade of the Armed Forces at the National Parade Square on Victory Day, on December 16, this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, said Tapan Kanti Ghosh, the ministry’s secretary.
“Considering the coronavirus situation, the prime minister has instructed us not to hold a Victory Day
Parade this year,” Tapan told the media on Sunday afternoon.
“However, the president and the prime minister paying tributes at the National Memorial in Savar, 31-cannon salute at dawn, distribution of food to the needy people and some other programs will be organized like in previous years,” he said.
Some regular programs will be organized at the district and upazila levels while avoiding public gatherings, the secretary said. “But there will be no parades at the district level either.”
According to ministry sources, exhibitions will be held at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on the occasion; virtual discussions will also be arranged marking the day.
