No urea crisis in Irri-Boro season

There will be no crisis of urea fertilizer during current Irri-Boro season as the government has already distributed 14,36,831 tonnes of urea at farmer level and got a stock of 7,77,777 tonnes.
High officials of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) informed this to Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu at a meeting here Wednesday, a press release said.
The minister said the government will provide gas supply to fertilizer factories on a priority basis for ensuring an uninterrupted production of fertilizer.
Amu asked the officials to take stern administrative action to check all misuses and irregularities at fertilizer factories under the BCIC.
The minister said the government will take realistic and innovative initiatives to reopen closed factories of BCIC. “Effective steps needed for reopening potential factories including Dhaka Leather Company,” he said.
The officials informed the minister that BCIC would reopen Chittagong Chemical Complex (CCC) at a cost of Taka 114 crore in December next. Besides, a feasibility study is going on to build a fertilizer factory with modern technology at Ghorashal, they informed.
Industries Secretary M Moinuddin Abdullah also attended the meeting.
